  18. <p>     To historians, Vincent Van Gogh was an inspired madman: his
  19. stormy psychedelia reflected a tormented soul. Now, 100 years
  20. after his suicide, it seems the Dutch painter wasn't insane or
  21. epileptic. He had Meniere's disease, says a report in the
  22. Journal of the American Medical Association based on a review
  23. of 796 of his letters. The ailment can cause hallucinations and
  24. a ringing in the ear. Severing it was probably his way of
  25. finding relief.
